Bidirectional Charging and Electrified Heavy Transport Solution
The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection will invest 80 million euros in research and development projects to support the transition of electric vehicles and their integration into the electricity market. The focus will be on projects that provide solutions for bidirectional charging and electrified heavy transport.
“Bidirectional charging of electric vehicles, i.e. charging from the grid and back to the grid, is another important part of the expansion of the German charging infrastructure. This will make charging a ‘smart’ part of the infrastructure.” Stefan Di Bitonto, German Federal Said an electric vehicle expert of the Foreign Trade and Investment Agency.
The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection calls for the following priorities when submitting expressions of interest:
Focus on funding the “2025 Two-Way Fleet Power Plant”. The aim is to further develop bidirectional and power system-friendly charging through application-oriented research. The goal is that starting in 2025, most of the charging process for electric cars and trucks is controlled by the electricity market and other system-friendly components of the energy system.
Focus on funding the establishment of a resilient “low-cost” production-consumer charging infrastructure. The infrastructure is primarily used by households, residential, commercial charging stations, and public high-performance charging centers, as well as along highways and arterial roads. The goal is to develop a “low-cost” production-consumer charging infrastructure.
Focus funding “Products and Production Processes for Successful EV Transformation”: The aim is to support EV transformation through research and development that improves value creation, cost efficiency, in-country expertise, supply chain resilience, and realignment of products and production processes.
Michael Kellner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, said: “To ensure that this bidirectional charging becomes a reality as soon as possible, we particularly support research and development in this area.
Our goal is to make Germany a leading market and market for electric vehicles and their integration into the grid. leading supplier.”
